Materials
- Two cardboard tubes or paper rolls
- Washable paint
- Paintbrushes
- Glue, tape, or a stapler for adult use
- Yarn or string
- Hole punch
- Scissors
- Optional: stickers, markers, or washi tape
How to Do the Activity
- Give each child two cardboard tubes or paper rolls.
- Invite children to paint the tubes with their chosen colors and patterns.
- Let the paint dry before assembling the binoculars.
- Attach the two tubes side by side with glue, tape, or adult stapling.
- Punch one hole on the outside edge of each tube.
- Tie yarn or string through the holes to make a simple neck strap.
- Use the finished binoculars for a nature walk, classroom look-and-find game, or pretend explorer play.

Teacher Tip: Keep the yarn short enough for safe supervised play, or skip the strap and let children hold the binoculars with two hands. For a quick classroom version, pre-punch the holes and pre-cut the yarn before inviting children to paint and assemble.
