Fishing Fine Motor Art Activity
This fishing fine motor art activity combines process art with playful pretend fishing. Children paint fish cutouts, attach yarn lines to simple craft-stick fishing rods, and practice gentle hand movements as they make their fish swim, pull, and follow the line.

Materials
- Fish outline cutouts
- Washable paint
- Paintbrushes or finger paint
- Black marker
- Yarn or string
- Craft sticks

How to Do the Activity
- Prepare simple fish outlines on sturdy paper and cut them out.
- Invite children to paint the fish with brushes, fingers, dots, stripes, or color mixing.
- Let the fish dry before adding the fishing lines.
- Tape or tie a piece of yarn to each fish near the mouth.
- Attach the other end of the yarn to a craft stick to make a simple fishing rod.
- Invite children to move the rod gently and make the fish swim across the table.
- Use the finished fish for color sorting, counting, storytelling, or an ocean display.

- What colors did you choose for your fish?
- How does your fish move when you pull the string?
- Can you make your fish swim slowly?

Teacher Tip: Use shorter pieces of yarn for younger children so the fishing rods are easier to control. If the fish will be used many times, print or trace them on cardstock and add a small piece of tape where the yarn attaches.
